A Referee's Reply

Half Man Half Biscuit - The Referee's Alphabet

Redditch

Quotes of the Day
"Are you Milly in Disguise?" & "Who ate all the pies?" to the Redditch Physio.. Cruel but equal rights = equal abuse. This was along with our own serial "ten to two-er" starting the chant "Peggy's
Bird" to deflect from his own distinct taste in the female form !
umm ..
"Joachim will leap like a salmon and make it one nil" just before he did exactly that.. What a quote!
On to the programme for quotes , Don't panic i didn't buy one just used the on terrace library system.
"One more Year" Uncle Ken is still popping at those that dare to raise a whimper of dissent by labelling them as "Serial Moaners" ha! ha!.
Mr Clubshop is "Going Bananas" Do we have a video clip of that or is it too graphic to get a rating? Even from the Stewards!
Keithy Boy is telling us or whoever reads the programme to "Keep passing the Ball" a suggestion may be to tell the players that they can do this in the second half as well as the first.
To the match we go
Firstly it was a Great crowd even if the stand did look pretty empty , guess for many ten pounds is the limit at the minute with a grand total of null/zero/zilch/0/none Redditch fans spotted in the crowd. We started very brightly and played some lovely build up play with the final ball/ shot letting the whole move down. The front players combined brilliantly at times and Sedgemore controlled the midfield. The penalty that wasn't for handball was a definite penalty with the young fast tracked referee getting it very wrong.Never mind daddy will get that one removed from the record at his next assessors meeting. We totally deserved the lead and if it wasn't for making the wrong decisions in front of goal we should of been already home and dry.
Yet again in following on from last season we stayed in the changing room for much of the second half but should of put the game out of sight when Joe steamed forward to create a 3 on 1 situation and decided to go it alone. PASS THE FUCKING BALL when you need to.This should be made into an arrestable offence. Our Decision making last night at times was appalling. As will be the case in this league if you don't kill the game off when you have the chances then you won't get all of the points and an unstoppable strike from an open invitation to shoot led to this.
Positive from last night was the way we attacked . Frew,Jack(first half) JJ and DB all looked good and the centre halves's looked excellent. I liked the way when Sedgemore lost control of the game he was subbed for a very similar player in Bridgewater who did drag us back into the game -the sub was made 15 mins too late though.
Negative - Weaver was decidedly average and Charlie is left footed (i.e not a right back) and as for Ben Chapman who someone commented last night runs like a Cross legged Crab his distribution was as bad as it gets,it was awful. In fact so was Crane's but Chapmans took it to a whole new level of awfulness.
A game that should of been won comfortably against a side that will be in the bottom 6.
So will we if we don't get that winning mentality back.

The ground was on par with Stamford but with temporary stands that had now been passed as permanent. No smoking was allowed on bit open structure stands! although this was the only bit of jobsworth we encountered all day. The clubhouse was dowdy, but welcoming with good pricing The food looked
ok,lots of gravy flowing.Comments varied on the quality.
The game started off scrappy in poor conditions on a pitch that had a good slope on it which the northern linnets used well in the first half. Howie decided that catching the ball was not allowed in the first ten minutes and flattered the home side with some fumbles.
When we eventually woke up and still had no idea of the formation that had been decided in the raffle before the game. Jack as a lone striker ? You really are having a laugh
Keithy Boy.
Jack then decided that his back was not in it today and went off for some peas and gravy leaving
JJ the ex league central striker wonder to enter the fray as an attacking right midfielder!
Mr
Frew carrying on from last week continued to punch above his weight for the whole game and earned the corner that the Crane got up for to enable Weaver to blast through the roof from 1 yard. The rest of the first half was spent too-ing and frow-ing.
The second half consisted of two halves with the northern side dominating and getting a deserved goal although there was a clear foul in the build up. during the first period and then us dominating the last 20 minutes.
All in all not a bad start with the positives of
Frew,DB and the midfield.
Negatives are that we look a bit cart horse like at the back and Joe Francis is not fit by a Ipswich mile.
The
sweepstake on the first moan of the game was won in 30 seconds for the odd team selection and a hat trick achieved in 3 minutes.I am sure some of these guys have female hormones rushing through their veins.
Finally, Good chips in the Burscough High street.
As a footnote - Cheers for the Beer Lads.

A quick review

Of last night in no particular order.
Madness were excellent playing all of the hits.Wonderful stuff.
I couldn't pick a winner amongst all of the donkeys running and there were some donkeys.
Low grade racing is junk.
The steward trying to send people the wrong way home out of the disabled car park .You are a Twat!
Trilby and Pork pie Hats (even plastic) are still Cool.As is the Fez
It is very amusing watching people get more & more ratted when you are sober drinking Green Tea. (sad)
People watching notes...
Why do parents not take coats for their small children who are wearing party dresses for when the sun goes down, have they not learned that it gets cold at night? Muppets!
A So called Male muppet who spent the whole of madness attempting to do handstands . WTF, Knob!
The Poor cow that spent 30 minutes of Madness doing a loop (while her partner went to the main stage ) walking around with a pushchair trying to get the little one to sleep. Leave him.
Ladies who wear the prettiest dresses but forget that the Boatrace won't look better in any dress, nice legs though. They then celebrate like they have won the fa cup when the favourite wins for them.Keep drinking the Rose.
Ah! it's time to go and collect the minibus now.

Monday Joke

They are watching Bloody Rambo in the front room so I have been spending even more time with my best friend , heres a joke I found on with it .

This is a true story about a recent wedding that took place at Clemson University. This was a huge wedding with over 300 guests. After the wedding at the reception, the groom got up on stage and took the microphone to talk to the crowd. He said that he wanted to thank everyone for coming, many from long distances, to support them at their wedding. He especially wanted to thank the bride's and groom's families for coming and to thank his new father-in-law for providing such a fabulous reception. To thank everyone for coming and bringing gifts and everything, he said he wanted to give everyone a special gift from just him. Taped to the bottom of everyone's chair (even the chairs of the wedding party) was a manila envelope. He said that was his gift to everyone, and told everyone to open their envelopes.

Inside each manila envelope was an 8x10 picture of his best man having sex with the bride. (He had gotten suspicious of the two of them and hired a private detective to trail them weeks prior to the wedding.) After he stood there and watched the people's reactions for a couple of minutes, he turned to the best man and said ''F--- you !'' he then turned to the bride and said ''F--- you !'' and then he turned to the dumbfounded crowd and said..... ''Thanks, I'm out of here.''

He had the marriage annulled first thing that Monday morning. While most of us would have broken off the engagement immediately after finding out about the affair, this guy goes through with it anyway as if nothing was wrong.
His revenge: 1) Making the bride's parents pay over $32,000 for a 300 guest wedding and reception. 2) Letting everyone know exactly what did happen. 3) And best of all, trashing the bride's and best man's reputations in front of all of their friends, their parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, nieces and nephews, etc....
Ya gotta love this guy.

Are We Ready .......

For the big kick off on Saturday? The first competitive match vs Hillingdon suggests so but they are a side that are two leagues below. It was a quality performance with some great flowing football with the bonus of goals that were all well created and not mistakes from the opposition. The game was won in the first half so the second half can be forgotten about.I do like the look of the central midfield partnership (Sedgemore & Bridgewater) especially when this is combined with the fact that Camm & Fisk are on the bench to come on and shore up things when it is not going our way.Defensively I believe that Peters and Crane are more than capable with Weaver as a stand in for injury and suspension. Is Weaver a full back? NO would be the stock answer but until he is really tested the jury has to remain out. We did get by last year with Dean West for most of the season. Are there really that many good left wingers out there?
Up front no one can argue that we aren't going to score goals. Firepower is something that we are not lacking both of the Diddy centre forwards will score 15+ with Joe, Turner, Frew (if he plays like he did Saturday) and Jack will all contributing .
Chatting over a beer and meat on Saturday evening the common consensus was a bit doom and gloom with the highest finishing position being predicted as mid table, maybe making a push towards a play off place. My personal opinion is more positive than that,I think the play offs are more than within our grasp but our away form (a major point made on sat night) has to be rock solid much like last year.
Raise a glass to the new season, cheaper northern beer, better food and the hours to be spent on the A17, A1 and M62.

A dawning of a new era is upon us.

Amusing

Bic Runga and Pete Murray

Being slightly underwhelmed by the marvellous Martha the other night caused me to think of another night and a similar feeling after seeing the fantastic Bic Runga at the arts centre in 2004. It was another gig that didn't quite hit the mark due more to the bad mix that night and also a show stealing performance from the Aussie Superstar Pete Murray who opened the night.
Another Gig witnessed by a crowd of 200 by music superstars that rarely play to less than 2000 people

Martha Wainwright a review

I have waited a day or so to post a review to let the gig sink in.
The chance to see Martha play close up (she really was only 6 yards away from me) was one that could not be turned down.I like both of the albums and although the cost is much more than I would ever dream of paying (19 inc booking) it just screamed at me to do it.
The first thing I noticed was that this was a real grown up gig with lots of middle age and grey pounds filling the venue, not a bad thing but a big indication of where her main fans are from.
The support was the lead singer of "Brute chaos" James Steel playing an acoustic set.His set of alt country songs was impressive and after checking out the myspace of his band I will be seeking out the full band when they play in our area.
Martha ? Don't get me wrong i enjoyed the gig but it was just a bit dull.I loved the bits were it went off centre, the Piaf cover and Stormy weather were amazing as were several other bits of the set but it just didn't work for me as a complete gig.Perhaps I expecting too much or maybe the dickhead at the front who just would not shut up between songs caused this (he deserved a big big slap)even after Martha had bollocked into him for constantly asking for the highly overrated BMFA he incurred her wrath again near the end of the set and probably caused her to not play another encore.Overall it was a treat to see her in such a small venue but one that will be forgotten about far too quickly.

Shirt Sponsor

Well done Amanda on putting your money ( i can dream of having such amounts, let alone spare) where your support is and getting drawn out as the winner of the shirt sponsor.
Having Just the word "Amanda" on the shirts would of been most amusing as pointed out by the Stalybridge website creator. What a win win situation for the club . All of the entrance money plus a donation to help with refurbishing the kitchen! Does it need doing? Keeping in contact with some of the volunteers that helped for free at the end of last season with the cost of a phone call would of been a good start .Perhaps some of the money should go towards phone bills and public/volunteer relations.Best hope the club don't need them this season as a swift No with a knowing smile is in order.
The company that bought the winning ticket from Amanda have a bargain as well, it does smell a little set up though. Could i be as bold as to suggest that a contingency plan was already on standby if an individual won, I won't suggest anything else in case the Lincolnshire boys get upset and want to shake me down, Ha!Ha!
What would i have done if i had won. a charity would off got their name on the shirt a la Aston Villa and Barcelona. The publicity would be priceless.

Poor Poor Norfolk's second side

That 5/1 bet offered on relegation looks even more appealing after the display against a Spurs side with several players already sold , one striker on his way tomorrow and another on his way sat in the stands. They were ripped apart by a side that are still 3 weeks away from competitive football. dear, dear , dear... Never mind hey !
The positive spin is the lad went and was singing along with the Spurs about his dislike for the
Woolwich and also standing up to show his dislike for the Woolwich... At last he is a football fan even if he does support the White Hart Lane mob.
King's Lynn
FC is just a skip and a jump away in the natural cycle of support.

No Kicking The Animals!

A little farm boy was walking to the school bus one morning when he began kicking farm animals. First he kicked a pig. Then he kicked a chicken. Lastly he kicked a cow.

His mother, watching from the kitchen window decided she would handle the situation after he returned from school. When he comes home from school, his mother confronts him and says "I seen you this morning kicking those farm animals. since you kicked a pig you get no pork products for a week. Since you kicked a chicken you get no eggs for a week. Since you kicked a cow, you get no beef products for a week. Now go wait for your father and tell him what you have done. "

The young boy goes and waits for his father. When his father comes home from a long day of work he is so mad he kicks the cat across the front yard. The boy looks to his mother and says "You wanna tell him no pussy or do you want me to?"

Stamford Friendly

Good things
We played the ball on the ground and at times played some pretty penetrative football.
It was not an overall very friendly game in very testing conditions.
The lad on trial had very little to do but many good things came from down the right hand side
John Turner is looking good as are the midfield pairing of Sedgemore and Bridgewater
We still look two weeks away from being ready which in my view is good.
Jack is looking fit
Bad things
Defensively we look at sea at times but Rhino! is part of the above comment about being two weeks away as is JJ and JF.
The amount of time it takes to get to Stamford when it is only a round trip of 80 miles for me
Conclusion
We have a very strong Squad
The game was poor but at least Stamford is a very pretty town despite the run down ground (& it use to be worse).
Very friendly people in the ground but there were very few Kings Lynn to wind them up as we normally do.
It was Very Very Very Hot for the balding fans amongst us.

The Brownies

Were excellent at Norwich Arts Centre last night. They played a storming set full of energy and power that packed a real punch in a very hot crypt. As i have said on my facebook and in conversation if the band were from The smoke or Manchester they would be on the cover off the now commercially sad but is there an alternative magazine NME.My compatriot for the evening said they have got better every time he has seen them, lets hope the progression happens slowly and that the big name producer they have for the LP does not smooth over the rawness.I am looking forward to the long player big time .I also hear news of a Norwich band feud between Violet Violet & the Brownies with the Kabeedies tagged on for good measure.Lets get a band play off with a battle to the very end to determine the victors.
I loved the main support act
Fuck Dress who mashed together a huge range of influences to create an aural assault that provided a great trip back to the best alternative 80's sound.
The other support bands were Platform 1 who were to be truthful ,awful with the onstage charisma of a squashed daddy long legs and I only caught the last two songs of an Elastica influenced first band
Comic Book Heroes but I have added them to the list to catch again.
Norwich just seems to be oozing with great music at the minute with a free event at Waterloo Park on Sunday hopefully next on my list after a sponsored bike ride in the morning.
I have posted the Brownies video before but as it is possibly the best song of the last twelve months it just has to be aired again and again.

Yet More Girls Aloud at Newmarket

Pictures can be found at the following link
Pictures
They are worth a look & if you follow the link back to 2008 and then Warwick castle you will see more photos of the first outfits they wore!

Girls Aloud at Newmarket Nights

I will start by saying I am no fan of the Girls and can never remember any of their hits but last night they were very impressive. When they came on I expected to just tolerate and ogle but by the end I was still ogling like any self respecting nearly 40 year old man and really enjoying the whole show. They played 16 songs, had one costume change and seemed to enjoy what they were doing with many smiles, waves and even a bit of chat(even the notoriously miserable Nicola joined in,looking very lush with a seventies Marilyn Chambers hair cut). One highlight was the cover version of Push it!(salt and pepa) which was excellent in all so many ways.
They even knew where they were playing!
If they read all of the slagging (all correct so I am told) they they got after the forty pound a ticket Holkham Hall debacle last year then last night was a great answer
Last night's cost was only £12 a ticket with disabled free and a good nights horse racing thrown in.The weather smiled with the rain staying away for the music and only a few short drizzles during the racing.Traffic wise,it only took 40 minutes to clear the car park and get to the Rowley mile before I could short cut through the town home
All in all an unexpected terrific night out with an extra Ten English pounds in my pocket to boot.
Newmarket Nights, well worth the effort with Boyzone (!!) and Madness to come for me later in the summer

A Brief comment

Well true to my word i have boycotted the friendlies over the excessive price to non season ticket holders and i have to say The F-word tonight was an excellent alternative.
I have been a right ratty bastard all day today though.Nothing has gone badly wrong and i have checked to see if i am pre menstrual but after doing all of those jobs that keep getting put to the bottom of the list i have come to a conclusion it is partly down to not going to the friendlies amongst the getting told to turn the music down and not being able to go outside for any real amount of time until after 3.45 pm because well i won't go there.

FRUSTRATION REIGNS BIG STYLE
Now lets bring on Girls Aloud on Friday Night in the rain, Oh goody goody!

Another Monday Laugh

Beer vs. Vagina

1. Beer is always wet. Vagina needs a little work.
One point to BEER
2. Warm beer tastes awful.
One point to VAGINA
3. A really cold beer is satisfying.
One point to BEER
4. If after taking a swig of your favorite beer you find a hair between your teeth, you may vomit.
One point to VAGINA
5. If you get home reeking of beer your wife may get mad, make a scene, kick you out, etc. If you get home reeking of vagina your wife may get mad, kick you out, even leave you. There's definitely a point to be had here, depending on your point of view and personal circumstances.
I'll just call it a DRAW for the time being.
6. Ten beers in one night and you can't drive home. Ten vaginas in one night and you don't want to drive anywhere.
One point to VAGINA
7. If you have a lot of beer in a public place, your reputation may suffer. If you eat any vagina in public, you become a legend.
One point to VAGINA
8. If a cop stops you and you smell of beer you may get arrested. If you smell of vagina he may buy you a beer.
One point to VAGINA
9. You normally don't find old beer.
One point to BEER
10. Too much beer and you'll think you see flying saucers. Too much vagina and you'll think you've seen God.
One point to VAGINA
11. Ripping off a beer bottle label is boring. Ripping off panties is
fun. One point to VAGINA
12. In most countries there's a tax on beer.
One point to VAGINA
13. If you have another beer the first one never gets pissed off. One point to BEER
14. You can always be sure if you're the first one to open a bottle or a can.
One point to BEER
15. If you shake beer it'll get all agitated but eventually it settles down.
One point to BEER
16. With beer you always have choice: clear, dark, pilsner, ale, lager, etc
One point to BEER
17. You always know how much beer is going to cost
One point to BEER
18. Beer doesn't have a mother
One point to BEER
19. Beer never expects to be hugged for half an hour after you
drink it
One point to BEER
20. Tapping a Keg... easy. Tapping a Vagina... may take you weeks.
One Point to BEER

Final Score 11 BEER/ 8 VAGINA

That's it! The matter is settled, the clear winner is: BEER

PS: If you are a woman and at this point feel angry, degraded or discriminated against, just remember that Beer would experience none of those feelings, let alone express them, an extra point for BEER

A Monday Laugh

A woman was unhappy with the way her laundry was done at the local Chinese laundry, so she wrote a note and put it in the bag with the next collection of soiled clothes: 'USE MORE SOAP ON PANTIES!'

She got the clean laundry back, and was still dissatisfied with the results, so the following week she enclosed another note: 'USE MORE SOAP ON PANTIES!'

The Chinese laundry man became very annoyed, and when her clean laundry was delivered, it contained a note from HIM: 'I USE PLENTY SOAP ON PANTY!!! YOU USE MORE PAPER ON ASS!!'

Ludovico Einaudi

It's Sunday night and i am still nursing a quality hangover (dodgy london beer) so beats per minute is just not happening and its mellow classical music all the way. Both of these pieces are lovely as are most of Einaudi's work.He is worth checking out in a big way

Sexual Olympics

A man went over to his girl's place for a little bit of nookie between the sheets. He presented her with three choices of condom -- gold, silver, or bronze.

"Silver," she said.

"Why not gold?"

"Because I want you to come second for once!"

A few more thoughts

Tomorrow sees the visit of the only real side in Cambridge, the others are just a non entity and a village side punching above their weight , they will fall and laugh we will.As said else where as a one man protest i will not be there, although i have free entry via my season ticket, nine pounds is far too much for a dressed up training session.Instead i am off to the capital for a few beers and company before the real season starts.I would love to see the breakdown of support at the game with the season ticket holders, away fans and paying fans all separated!
I read that Ronaldo thinks he is a slave as well. Twat! he really is , perhaps someone should get him to watch Roots or Amistad then visit a east European brothel on the way home to see what a slave is.Let him rot in the reserves for the rest of his contract.

A few thoughts

Sepp Blatter ? Just how many blue pills a night does this man take? Ronaldo a slave? What complete and utter I love Real Madrid bullshit. How pissed is he that English clubs are doing so well (shame about the national side but Mclaren is now dust so we may reach another semi final again)
A slave on six figures a week? This is the man who was once labelled as a man who had 50 ideas a night, 51 of them bad.( source- the Times) & now yet again he is appearing as an advert for dementia.
Mind you i agreed with the tighter shorts for women footballers one!
In the cricket world after showing some balls with making decisions overnight about the Peitersen sweep and lunch break times in wet weather the English cricket bosses have totally made fools of themselves by not simply throwing Yorkshire out of the competition for playing an unregistered overseas player and either making Durham play against Notts or awarding Durham a walkover.
What a farce.. sort it out and the bloody weather while you are there as well.
Friendlies ..umm when will people accept them for what they are, glorified training sessions. It matters not about results and certainly shouldn't cost more than £5 at our level.
Kung Fu Panda ... this film is very amusing , it is a kids movie though and should be treated as such. Go and see it or find a copy from ...

Say hello and wave goodbye

No,not the soft cell i have already posted a couple of musical tracks today.
In my best John
Fashanu voice I am welcoming "Rhino" What a good signing this could be. I love old fashioned no nonsense defenders and that is just what we are going to need in the BSN.
Good signing .

Kevin Horlock

has got be worth a look but lets not get too excited about him yet

In my best Justin Fashanu voice goodbye Mr West and good luck,he had a good second part of the season after getting dropped and as has been said elsewhere will make a good coach somewhere. You have too be honest though his legs were gone at times over the last two seasons and he was skinned on many an occasion.
